When are GIS fees unlawful?
The GIS fee (Gebühren Info Service) is charged in Austria for receiving broadcast programmes. Not every household, however, is actually liable or obliged to pay it.
Common GIS errors
- Fees charged despite no obligation to receive broadcasts (e.g. no receiving devices)
- Double billing within the same household
- Exemptions not taken into account (e.g. welfare recipients)
- Fees for commercial premises not used for broadcast reception
- Back-payment demands without sufficient evidence
Who can claim a refund?
Anyone or any household that has paid GIS fees in recent years despite no obligation to receive broadcasts, or while an exemption could have applied. Heirs can also pursue claims from an estate.
How does it work?
Send us your GIS notices, bank statements and details of your actual reception situation. We assess, free of charge, whether a refund can be legally enforced.
- Free initial assessment of your GIS payments
- Review of exemption and refund grounds
- Enforcement via specialised partner lawyers
- No cost risk to you
What does it cost me?
Nothing. We fund the proceedings in full. If successful, we receive an agreed share of the amount recovered; otherwise there is no cost at all.
